The face of this cube is 15 cm in size.
First you need to make a solid foundation: ideally it is a cube of foam rubber. If you do not find large pieces of foam rubber, you can glue the cube and from small pieces. Also as a filler suitable holofayber, synthetic wool, etc. But in this case, the cube will be softer and worse keep the shape.
The base can be additionally covered with a cloth cover.
Now you need to cut 6 squares in size 17 × 17 cm (including 1 cm allowances) from dense fabric – in this case it’s gabardine.
Glue the fabric with non-woven fabric for greater density.
Everything, you can start to create each side of the cube.
Such a plot is likely to interest the baby: the ladybird can be undone – inside the button-bear hides, and also pulling at the paws and counting the specks on the back.
Cut out 4 pieces of red fleece (or other suitable fabric), 6 paws and spots of black felt, head and eyes – also of felt. Sew your eyes to the head, specks to the 2 red details. Gently sew (or slip on the typewriter) a zipper, putting each edge between two red parts. Remove excess of lightning and sew your head to the back.
Sweep the legs by inserting their ends between the parts of the body, and sew the ladybug to the base fabric. Inside firmly sew the button.
The “Clouds” side
The child will love to stroke these fluffy clouds, and also in this plot there is a lacing with a button-bird.
Cut out clouds of white synthetic fur and sew to the base fabric. Sweep the small pieces of golden cord along the sides to each cloud (then when the sides of the cube are stitched they will be securely fastened). At the bottom, with a few stitches, secure the cord with a tied button at the end.
Bright beads, strung on an elastic band-cord, the child will be enthusiastically moving and pulling. A total of 5 rows, with the number of beads from 1 to 5. Beads are better to take different colors and from different materials.
Cut the elastic band into lengths of 17 cm, sweep each segment to the base one by one, string the beads, then sweep to the opposite side.
The side “Geometric figures”
Thanks to this side of the cube, the baby will get acquainted with simple geometric figures. They are colored, and fastened with Velcro. Each figure on the fabric-base has its “place” embroidered with threads of the same color.
First, cross-wise, sew to the fabric-based braid-zigzag.
Cut a square, a circle (diameter 4.5 cm), a triangle and a rectangle from a dense material (felt, felt).
Then from the felt cut out “covers” for them – 2 pieces with allowances for seams (0.5 cm). On one of the two sides, sew a velcro (soft side).
Sew a pair of handmade “cases” of felt, inserting inside a thick workpiece.
On the fabric-base, use a narrow zigzag (or embroider manually) the contours of each figure with threads of the same color. In the centers, sew hard sides of Velcro.
The petals of this bright flower from fabrics with different texture, each petal with its filler, which will undoubtedly interest the child.
Cut out from the tissues of different colors petals of about 6 cm in length, adding allowances for seams of 0.5 cm, 2 pieces. Sew them from the wrong side, leaving a hole in the base of the petal, turn it to the front and stuff it. Fillers can be: beads and beads of different sizes, rustling cellophane, small ringing bells, sintepon, etc.
Sew the left hole in each petal and sew on the base fabric. From above, sew the middle of the flower from a shiny or simply bright material.
The child will certainly like to play with a caterpillar on a cord: she eats grass and then turns into a butterfly. In the grass are also hidden bright buttons-flowers.
For this plot, you need a felt, a dense rubber band and a piece of a strong thin cord.
Cut out details of felt – caterpillar (2 parts), butterfly wings and grass. On one part of the caterpillar, embroider eyes and mouth. On the base fabric prikolite grass from below, attach it. In the large wings detail, make 2 holes for passing the rubber bands. Sew on the base of the end of the elastic, the second thread through the holes in the wings and fasten to the fabric. Wings can be decorated with contrasting pieces of felt.
Sew the caterpillar, stuffing it with synthetic cotton wool and securing the cord inside. The second end of the cord is sewn to the base fabric. Strongly sew the buttons-flowers in the “grass”.
Building a Cube
First, sew the sides in the unfolded form (see photo). All the seams do from the wrong side. Leaving the 3 sides of the upper face with the flower untouched (that is, the “lid” should remain), insert the filler cube inside. Manually sew a secret seam gently with the remaining sides.
The development cube is ready!
